TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Swansea! This is the Swansea Scoop - the local newsletter that’s like remembering there’s still half a bar of Dairy Milk in the cupboard 😊

Swansea’s got plenty going on this week, from wine tastings and vintage fairs to a Disney sing-along for adults. Throw in new menus, crafty cinema, and a community garden launch, and there’s no shortage of things to do close to home.

Whatever you get up to, have a good one, and I’ll catch you on Wednesday!

Andrew.

P.S. Know someone who’d enjoy the Scoop? Please forward this email to them and ask them to subscribe here 🙂

Kids outgrown everything (again)?

The NCT Swansea Nearly New Sale is back at the LC Swansea on Sunday, October 12th - and seller registration is now open.

For just £7.50, you can sell all your baby and kids’ clothes, toys, and gear without the hassle of Vinted or the stress of a car boot sale.

Just label your items, drop them off, and the team will take care of the rest. All that’s left for you to do is to sit back, relax and wait for the cash to roll in.

You’ll earn 50% of everything you sell, or 75% if you volunteer to help on the day. All proceeds go to support NCT’s amazing work with new and expectant parents.

It’s always a super popular event with hundreds of buyers through the doors. Seller spots fill up quickly, so don’t wait.

Got questions? Contact NCT on Facebook or email Anna at [email protected]

WEDNESDAY'S SCOOP (ICYMI) 🦢

In April 2008, Pluck Lake in Morfa briefly made Swansea the monster capital of the UK when Port Talbot local, Steve Jenkins, spotted what he thought was a log floating near a submerged white van - until it revealed legs, a tail, and eyes watching him back…

Within hours, his sighting of a metre-long crocodile had sparked police investigations, RSPCA searches, and dreams of Swansea's own Loch Ness moment…

Catch you on Sunday!

IS SWANSEA U3a 4U?

This week, we chatted to Barbara from Swansea u3a to find out about the tons of fun stuff they organise for retirees in Swansea, and how you can get involved.

Tell us a little bit about Swansea u3a: u3a is a UK-wide movement of locally-run interest groups that provide a wide range of opportunities for people in the "third age"; retired or semi-retired - to come together, learn from each other, and have fun! Swansea u3a currently has 1,400 members from all walks of life.

What sort of groups and activities do you run? We have around 80 interest groups, including walking groups, short tennis, short mat bowls, a sea shanty group, weekly lecture programme - plus regular day trips, and lots more.

What do members enjoy most about being part of u3a? Companionship, learning new skills, and being able to ask about things they don’t understand without the fear of appearing old and past it!

How can people learn more? Anyone interested can visit the Swansea u3a website for more info, and we’re also holding an Open Day in the Swansea Scout and Guide HQ on Bryn Road (just above the Rec car park) SA2 0AU on Wednesday October 1st from 10 AM - 2 PM. Come along to find out more, chat, and sign up if you like - registration is just £10 for a year.
